The statue of the African Renaissance in Dakar: the imposing landmark that is the pride of Senegalese and Africans.
this 52m high bronze statue was erected on the initiative of the former Senegalese president, Master Abdoulaye Wade was officially inaugurated on April 3, 2010.
From which we can read an engraved message from Master Abdoulaye Wade:
« African visitor or foreigner, if one day your steps take you to the foot of this monument, think of all the sacrifices that have torn Africa from centuries-old obscurity, to propel it into the light of freedom« .
This is to say the ambition and the conviction of the former Senegalese president to see this statue embody all the pain that Africans have endured, but also the dream carried by his youth for a brighter future.
The 198 steps leading from the monument’s esplanade to the foot of the statue hardly discourage daily visitors, including several foreign tourists, who immortalize their visit to Dakar with pictures taken at the foot of the Giant.
Inside the statue, explanations, with supporting photos, are provided to visitors on the construction stages of this monument which took around 34 months to complete.
These are indeed the few statues in the world that can be visited from inside. This masterpiece, with an estimated lifespan of 1,200 years and which was built by a North Korean company, has large rooms decorated with beautiful works of art, an authentic African living room and a royal salon with a majestic throne.
Its elevator climbs fifteen floors to transport visitors to the belvedere, the head of the man. From there, a splendid view from the top of this giant statue which overlooks an endless blue ocean.
